Iran Welcomes Dialogue with Netherlands: Diplomat

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran believes that dialogue is the suitable option for interaction with the Netherlands though the two countries may have conflicting views, an Iranian deputy foreign minister said.

In a telephone conversation on Sunday, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ali Baqeri and Head of Political Section at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands Marcel DeVink talked about the relations between the two countries.

Highlighting the historical relations between the two countries, Baqeri said, “Iran and the Netherlands are in a new phase of cooperation, which is expected to further expand with mutual will.”

The Iranian diplomat further stated, “Although there may be differences in the views of the two countries, continuous dialogue and consultation have always been the preferred approach of the Islamic Republic of Iran towards the Netherlands.”

He also noted that Iran believes that these talks will resolve the misunderstandings and ultimately facilitate interaction between the parties, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

For his part, the Dutch diplomat emphasized the importance of dialogue between the two countries, adding, “The essence of diplomacy is nothing but dialogue, and although it may not solve all problems, it can resolve misunderstandings.”

During the call, the latest developments in the consular relations between the two countries were also discussed.
