Iran-IAEA Cooperation on Favorable Track, Iran Welcomes Grossi's Visit

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has stated that the cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is on a favorable track, and Tehran welcomes the visit of IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi to the country.

Iran (IMNA) – Amir-Abdollahian made these remarks during a phone conversation with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, on Wednesday night. The two sides discussed the relations between Iran and the European Union, as well as the latest developments in the region.

Regarding the ongoing "genocidal war" being carried out by the Israeli regime in the Gaza Strip, the top Iranian diplomat urged the European Union to play a role in ending the conflict in the besieged enclave. Israel has imposed a complete siege on the densely populated territory, cutting off fuel, electricity, food, and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there.

Amir-Abdollahian also touched upon the constructive role of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in ensuring sustainable peace in the region, stating that Europe must respect Iranian armed forces within the framework of international law. He also stressed that Iran's recent retaliatory attack on Israel was based on its legitimate right to self-defense, following the Israeli regime's attack on Iran's consulate in the Syrian capital of Damascus on April 1.

Borrell, for his part, stressed that the European Union does not want tension with the Islamic Republic of Iran and welcomed the continuation of diplomatic consultations between the two parties. He also called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, welcoming Iran's positive role in reducing tensions and restoring peace and stability to the region.
