Iran Releases Detained Ship Crew in Humanitarian Gesture

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran has released the crew of detained MCS Aries ship, demonstrating a humanitarian approach, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian.

Iranian top diplomat emphasized the humanitarian gesture while confirming the decision to release the detained ship crew in a phone conversation with his Estonian counterpart Margus Tsahkna on Thursday during which they both reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and looking into opportunities for cooperation.

According to Amirabdollahian, the detained ship was under judicial detention for maritime security concerns after turning off its radar in Iranian territorial waters.

However, Iran released all crew members in line with its humanitarian consideration. He added that with the captain's cooperation, they could return home, including to Estonia.

Amirabdollahian emphasized the importance of all ships complying with maritime laws and regulations to uphold maritime security.

Iranian Foreign Minister also drew attention to the situation in Palestine, stressing the urgency for all nations to work towards a sustainable ceasefire, the lifting of the humanitarian siege, prisoner exchange, and preventing further atrocities and genocide by the Israeli regime in Gaza.

Margus Tsahkna, the Estonian Foreign Minister, expressed optimism about expanding relations between the two countries, expressing the hope that obstacles would be overcome.

Furthermore, appreciating the humanitarian perspective of the Islamic Republic of Iran in releasing the detained ship crew, the Estonian Foreign Minister urged all countries to collaborate in ending the war in Gaza.
