Iranian Company Locally Produces Graphene Oxide to Meet Domestic Needs

TEHRAN (ANA)- An Iranian knowledge-based company has produced graphene oxide for use in oil and gas industries at high quality but a lower price compared to foreign-made imported equivalents.

Yousef Amrolahi, the managing director of a knowledge-based company, pointed to the production of graphene oxide as one of the products made in his company.

"Graphene and graphene oxide are strategic products that have been produced by innovative methods in this company and its mass production is possible,” he said, according to a report by the Iran Nanotechnology Innovation Council (INIC).

Emphasizing that their company can meet 100% of the country's needs for graphene oxide, he added, “Graphene and its derivatives are used in various fields such as oil, gas, petrochemicals, batteries and supercapacitors. Also, these materials can be used in producing nanofiltration in the environment sector.”

Amrolahi also said that the medical field is one of the other fields in which graphene is used, adding, “Graphene and its derivatives are used in the production of sensors and drug carriers. In the past years, graphene and its derivatives used to be imported from overseas but at a much higher price that amount to 10 times the price of the domestically-made equivalent produced in this knowledge-based company.”

“This product has previously been purchased and imported from developed countries such as Germany and the United States but now we can provide these graphene products to domestic consumers at a tenth of the price of foreign equivalents with the same quality. We are also looking for the export of this product, the countries such as Germany and Canada, Russia and Poland, which consume this material, are the target markets for our exports,” he continued.

According to INIC report, the above-mentioned knowledge-based company has the potential to produce 40 kg of graphene oxide per month. Using its own graphene oxide, this company produces by-products such as anti-moss paints that are used in painting a ship's hull.
