‘Racist Smear’: Muslim Lawyer Sues Firm for Job Discrimination over Palestine Solidarity

According to Rahyafte(the missionaries and converts website):Jinan Chehade, 26, a Georgetown University Law School graduate, claims her job offer was rescinded by a prominent U.S. law firm due to her advocacy.

Chehade, with Moroccan and Lebanese heritage, grew up in Bridgeview, a Chicago suburb known for its significant Arab population. She attributes her upbringing in this community and her awareness of the Palestinian issue as pivotal to her career choice.

“I grew up in a very highly politicized community where we were constantly, post-9/11, demonized for being Muslim or being Arab,” Chehade said, Anadolu Agency reported on Tuesday.

After accepting a position at Foley & Lardner, Chehade attended a meeting where she felt her support for Palestine was equated with terrorism. “So ultimately, they framed my advocacy for Palestine as supporting terrorism, which, as we know, is a very racist smear with no factual backing,” she stated.

Chehade’s decision to challenge the alleged discrimination in federal court is a stand against what she perceives as a double standard in the treatment of individuals who voice support for the Israeli regime versus Palestine.

“That’s when I decided to not only speak out but fight back … and pursue a lawsuit … I wanted to set a precedent to show that these law firms cannot discriminate against us without accountability,” she said.

The case highlights a broader issue of perceived discrimination and double standards on US campuses and beyond, particularly concerning the Palestinian cause.

This comes against the backdrop of ongoing Israeli war on Gaza, where the regime’s attacks have killed more than 37,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children and left more than 85,000 others injured as the region faces a severe blockade.
