According to Rahyafte(the missionaries and converts website):Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei made the statements during his 2024 message to Hajj pilgrims. The official website of the Leader, Khamenei.ir, has published part of the message.
In a part of his message, Ayatollah Khamenei reflected on the significance of Hajj, stating, “When one contemplates this magnificent gathering and the complex Hajj rituals, they are a source of reassurance and increase the confidence for the Muslims, while being intimidating and a cause of trepidation for enemies and for ill-wishers.”
He emphasized the transformative power of the Hajj experience, urging the faithful, “Brothers and sisters, bring your thoughts and actions closer and closer to the truths and luminous teachings of Hajj, and bring back to your homes a reformed identity infused with these lofty concepts. This is the valuable, real souvenir of your Hajj journey.”
The Hajj is a religious duty that must be fulfilled at least once by all Muslims who are able to do so. The pilgrimage involves a series of rituals performed over four days in and around Mecca, located in western Saudi Arabia.
Highlighting the broader impact of the Hajj, Ayatollah Khamenei called for the spirit of the pilgrimage to resonate beyond its time and location, “This year’s bara’at [renunciation of the polytheists] must continue beyond the time and place of Hajj to all Muslim countries and cities worldwide. It must continue beyond just the Hajj pilgrims and be extended to the general populace.”
The politico-religious ritual of disavowal of disbelievers (bar’aat min-al-mushrikeen), is rooted in Quranic verses, and is held every year near Mount Arafat, on the 9th day of the lunar Hijri month of Dhul Hajjah.
The full text of Ayatollah Khamenei’s message is set to be published on Saturday, June 15, during the Renunciation of the Polytheists’ Ceremony in the Arafat, providing further insights into his views on the role of Hajj in the modern world.
The Leader had said back in early May that this year’s Hajj pilgrimage should focus on disavowing the Israeli regime and its supporters for their genocidal war on Gaza.
This year’s Hajj rituals should be a disavowal of the Zionist criminal enemy of Muslims and its supporters, the Leader stated then.
The act of disavowing the enemies of God is a cherished Abrahamic teaching, he said. “Since the inception of the [Islamic] Revolution, this principle has been a cornerstone of Hajj. However, this year’s Hajj holds a unique significance due to the huge and strange events in Gaza, which have starkly exposed the malevolent nature of the entity born out of Western civilization.”
The Israeli attacks against the besieged Gaza Strip since October last year has killed more than 37,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children.
