AI Helps Rapid Breast Cancer Screening in Iran

TEHRAN (ANA)- Iranian researchers at a knowledge-based company can perform breast cancer screening in 30 seconds by using artificial intelligence.

“Medical pre-diagnosis based on medical images by using artificial intelligence is one of the most important activities of our company,” Reza Zamani, the managing director of the knowledge-based company, told ANA on the sidelines of Asr-e Omid event and exhibition in Karaj.

“In this knowledge-based company, we receive medical images from medical centers and analyze and process them by using artificial intelligence and the patient's problems are reported to the doctor in the form of a visual and written report after diagnosis; therefore, the doctor can provide the final report and diagnosis to the patient by using the patient's initial report and images,” he added.

Noting that breast cancer screening on mammography images is one of the first achievements of the company, he said, “Mammography images of women are sent to us online through the mammography machine in the medical centers, and the image report is sent after 10 to 30 seconds to the medical centers.”

“The images are connected to the company's servers by the software developed by the knowledge-based company by using artificial intelligence models and then the result is sent,” Zamani said, adding that the absence of a physical device due to the high costs is one of the strong points of the cloud and online system of the knowledge-based company.

The fourth edition of the national Asr-e Omid (age of hope) event in the specialized field of artificial intelligence (AI) and internet of things (IoT) started work at Islamic Azad University’s Karaj branch near Tehran on October 14.

Along with the event, the first national conference on research and innovation in artificial intelligence, an exhibition of new achievements in artificial intelligence and internet of things, and specialized meetings and workshops focusing on scientific challenges in the field of artificial intelligence were held.

The event was held in the form of 15 specialized committees and with participation of 200 knowledge-based companies in the field of artificial intelligence.

A total number of 385 abstracts and 280 original articles had been received of which 91 were accepted and 75 others were finalized.

A large number of Iranian idea makers, young inventors, knowledge-based companies and leading scientific centers participated in the event to display their latest achievements.

The previous three editions of Asr-e Omid event were held in Tehran (2022), Assalouyeh (2022) and Sirjan (2023).

The event ended its work on October 17.
